This month, I wanted to share something a little more personal not just what we do, but how and why we do it.
Every garden we create carries years of experience, practical knowledge, problem-solving, craftsmanship, and care. From the first conversation to the final planting, there are hundreds of decisions being made behind the scenes to ensure your garden not only looks beautiful, but works beautifully too for your home, your lifestyle, and the years ahead.
I’ve been incredibly fortunate to work in gardens all over the country throughout my career. Like many gardeners, I originally followed the traditional route working as a gardener on estates, managing plant collections, teaching students, writing articles, finally working my way up to be RHS Garden Wisley” Garden Manager at Royal Horticultural Society garden in Surrey, England, which remains one of my favourite places I’ve ever worked.
But over time, I realised I wanted to bring that knowledge into real people’s homes and communities. I wanted to create gardens that genuinely improve everyday life.
So, 11 years ago, I built Mimosa Design a family business rooted in honesty, craftsmanship, and long-term relationships.
My brother Henry, our foreman, brings years of building experience and an incredible ability to interpret designs with precision and care. My partner combines practical skill with communication, organisation, and a genuine passion for supporting clients throughout the process. Together, we bring very different strengths, but all with the same goal: creating thoughtful, lasting gardens that feel deeply personal.
We are not simply landscapers, and we are we designers delivering pretty ideas detached from reality. What makes Mimosa different is that we combine creative design with real installation knowledge and years of hands-on horticultural understanding.
That means we instinctively consider:
* How the garden will feel from inside your home
* Which plants will genuinely thrive in your soil and aspect
* How materials will weather over time
* How drainage, paving, and construction methods cope with changing weather conditions
* How to create a space that reflects you and your personality
And although we try to make the process feel smooth and effortless, the reality is that truly good garden design takes enormous care, experience, and continual learning.
Materials evolve. Weather patterns change. Installation methods improve. Expectations are high and rightly so.
Every project matters deeply to us. I put my heart and soul into every garden we create. My aim is always to deliver something transformational, on budget, on time, and built to last.
But I also wanted to speak honestly about the reality of running a creative, skilled family business today. The current economic climate has made things difficult for everyone. Costs continue to rise, expectations continue to grow, and modern life often pushes us towards speed, automation, and instant results. Yet gardens don’t work like that.
Good gardens are thoughtful. They are collaborative. They are living things that evolve over time. And the process works best when it is built on trust, communication, and mutual respect. When clients work with us when there is understanding, patience, honesty, and enjoyment in the process the results are always stronger.
I completely understand that investing in your home and garden is precious. It is often a significant leisure spend, and one that comes with emotion, expectation, and sometimes understandable anxiety. I feel that responsibility deeply.
In return, I simply ask that people remember there are human beings behind the process, people who care enormously about delivering something wonderful for you.
We are conscientious, genuine, and committed to our clients for the long term. We stand by our work, and we truly care about the spaces we create.
Together, we can create something extraordinary. A garden that grows with you. A place of calm, beauty, and connection. An Eden that becomes more valuable with every passing season.
Thank you for supporting a genuine family business that truly cares about creating beautiful spaces for people to live well in.
With love,
